Met Office warns of 'unsettled' week ahead as UK temperatures plunge 10C from summer highs to 13C

Britain is bracing for a dramatic autumn cold snap after temperatures crashed from a record 22.8C in Lincolnshire on Thursday to highs of just 13C expected this Sunday. A northerly airflow is sweeping away the unseasonably warm air that made parts of England feel like late summer, with overnight lows set to fall below freezing in parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England. Met Office presenter Helen Willets called the 7C single-day drop "notable", warning wetter and windier conditions are arriving from the Atlantic from next week.
Saturday will offer sunny spells for most, but overnight temperatures will dip to just 9C ahead of Sunday rain.
London faces 30mph gusts and patches of light rain through Sunday afternoon, with the capital's high struggling to reach 13C.
The Met Office warns high pressure will 'reduce in its influence' next week, unleashing 'spells of wet and windy weather' from the Atlantic.
