Met Office warns stormy weather could hit Britain later this month as weekend temperatures plunge after 22.8C warmth

Rural areas could see frost on Saturday night, with temperatures dropping as low as -3C under clearing skies. Holbeach in Lincolnshire hit 22.8C on Thursday, but London will struggle to 14C today and 13C tomorrow. Sunday brings light rain and 30mph gusts to the capital. Forecasters expect bands of rain and wind to roll in from the Atlantic through the rest of October.

Snow is 'highly unlikely' in Wiltshire before January, the Met Office says.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Ian Lisk links a wetter autumn to a powerful El Niño.

BBC forecaster Helen Willets called a 7C drop in a single day 'notable'.
