Met Police arrest 42 and shut 11 shops in crackdown on London's stolen goods trade and 'rogue' car boot sales

A Hounslow shop was raided, yielding around 300 phones suspected to have been stolen along with £15,000 in cash. At a phone shop on Electric Avenue in Brixton, officers detained three men and discovered dozens of handsets believed to be stolen. Operation Zoridon involved visits to some 400 shops in total. Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes said that around 100 prolific shoplifters had between them committed 4,000 offences across London.

Thieves steal to order from 'shopping lists' handed over by the dealers reselling the goods.

Car boot sale organisers have been warned for the first time that they face criminal liability.

Seized stock included Tesco tinned mackerel, M&S wine, a machete and stolen passports.
