Met Police assess Palestine Action post by wife of Burnham's national security adviser as campaigners demand she face the law

Author Sarah Helm, 69, wife of Jonathan Powell, wrote on X: 'God help us authors who support Palestine and Palestine Action.' Supporting the group has been a criminal offence since July 2025, punishable by up to 14 years in prison. Powell is Andy Burnham's national security adviser and Britain's chief negotiator with Israel. Downing Street said Helm 'does not represent the Government in any capacity.'

Campaign Against Antisemitism called the post 'gobsmacking' and urged a police investigation.

Defend Our Juries thanked Helm for 'defying this absurdly authoritarian ban.'

More than 3,700 people have been arrested for backing the group since the ban.
