Met refers itself to watchdog after handing a 2019 letter about Meghan's father ONLY to the Sussexes, not overseas police
Meghan Markle and Thomas Markle Sr, whose alleged 2019 paedophilia letter — denied by him — was shared with Harry and Meghan but never passed to overseas law-enforcement agencies.
The Metropolitan Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct after admitting it received a letter in January 2019 containing allegations of criminal conduct by Thomas Markle Sr — and handed it to Meghan and Harry's office rather than alerting overseas law enforcement. Separately, Philippine police in Cebu have now obtained a court warrant to examine digital devices seized from Markle Sr's former home, where hundreds of suspected child sex abuse images were reportedly found.
The 2019 letter was written by Roslyn Loveless, Markle Sr's first ex-wife and mother of his two eldest children, who died in 2024.
Meghan's half-brother Thomas Markle Jr, 60, says he found the material — including a 15-minute video and 'hundreds' of images — in four storage boxes in July while searching for a phone for his fiancée.
Markle Sr, 82, who is now in a Florida rehabilitation centre after a stroke led to the amputation of his left leg, calls the allegations 'sick lies'.
