Met refers itself to watchdog for failing to warn overseas police of 2019 letter accusing Meghan's father of child abuse
Meghan Markle and Thomas Markle Sr, whose alleged 2019 paedophilia letter — denied by him — was shared with Harry and Meghan but never passed to overseas law-enforcement agencies.
The Metropolitan Police has admitted it failed to pass a 2019 letter — written by Thomas Markle Sr's first wife, the late Roslyn Loveless, and accusing him of child sex offending — to law enforcement agencies in the US, Philippines and Thailand, and has voluntarily referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Philippine police have now secured a court warrant to examine Markle Sr's electronic devices, including computers, phones, hard drives and old videotapes, with a specialist cybercrime unit in Cebu carrying out the analysis.
It has been reported that Buckingham Palace would have found it 'unthinkable' not to have been informed of the letter's contents at the time, raising the prospect the allegations were quietly buried to avoid scandal.
