More than 70 people have filed suit against Meta, claiming its smart glasses recorded individuals undressing, using the bathroom and having sex, with the footage then sent to contractors in Kenya engaged to train Meta's AI systems. One California plaintiff found photographs of his relatives bathing stored in his photo gallery once he had left the glasses sitting on a bathroom counter. French prosecutors have separately opened an investigation into complaints that the glasses were exploited in sexual harassment cases.

The plaintiffs allege that some victims were entirely unaware they had been recorded.

Attorney Tina Wolfson says the case encompasses people who never consented to being recorded or to their images being used in AI development.

Meta is set to reveal its newest wearable devices at its Menlo Park developers conference on 23 September.
