Mexico orders ex-Chihuahua prosecutor Cesar Jauregui to stand trial for treason over alleged CIA role in deadly drug raid

Federal prosecutors say they placed more than 150 pieces of evidence before a judge at a closed-door hearing. Their case centres on an April operation targeting a drug laboratory in Chihuahua, which they allege was carried out with CIA involvement without notification to Mexico City. Two US agents and two local officials died in a crash on the return journey. Jauregui is to remain at El Altiplano, the country's highest-security prison, until sentencing.

Judge Ricardo Alfonso Santos Dorantes ruled he should remain in custody for the duration of the trial.
