Michael Forest, the actor who was Star Trek's towering Greek god Apollo, has died aged 97 in Nevada

Michael Forest died on Wednesday at the senior assisted living home in Sparks where he had spent his final years. His friend James A Brown broke the news on Facebook. Born Gerald Michael Charlebois, Forest racked up more than 200 credits across a 65-year career. His 1967 Apollo captured the USS Enterprise and demanded Captain Kirk's crew kneel before him.

Forest once said the Apollo role had 'really given' him his '15 minutes of fame'.

He also appeared in The Twilight Zone, The Dick Van Dyke Show and Gilligan's Island.

In later years he became a busy voice actor on Power Rangers and World of Warcraft.
