Former Scotland Yard detective Peter Bleksley warns extra officers alone will not stop the bloodshed, comparing Middlesbrough's feuding postcode gangs to the lethal south London drug wars he fought in the 1980s. Nine people have died in six days, including PCs Matthew Blades and Tom Clough, killed when a stolen VW Passat drove the wrong way into their patrol car on the A66. Postcode rivals from TS6 and TS3 are blamed for rammings, stabbings and a house fire that killed seven-year-old Valentina Foster. MP Andy McDonald says residents are living in terror.
