Millions of Britons will get an extra hour in bed when the clocks go back at 2am tonight

Engineers from the Cumbria Clock Company will stop Big Ben at 6pm and switch it back on at 1am GMT after carrying out maintenance. Mark Crangle admits he gets nervous setting 'the most iconic clock in the country'. The change ends British Summer Time, an idea Edwardian campaigner William Willett championed in 1907. The clocks will spring forward again on Sunday, March 28.

Crangle once put a Seaham clock forward instead of back: 'You only make that mistake once.'

Nearly half of younger Britons report a mood dip, versus 22 per cent of Boomers.

Willett died in 1915, a year before the Summer Time Act finally passed.
