Minicab trade chief warns TfL plan to make every London private hire car electric by 2030 is 'not achievable'
Steve Wright, chair of the Licensed Private Hire Car Association, says most drivers cannot charge at home and on-street charging is 'extremely expensive'. Petrol, diesel and every type of hybrid would be barred from new licences from 3 July 2028. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles get until July 2030. The consultation closes on 2 December 2026.
TfL also plans to strip licences from minicabs once they hit 10 years old.
Just 35.5 per cent of London's 94,661 licensed minicabs are currently fully electric.
TfL forecasts only a nine per cent cut in minicab NOx emissions over ten years.
