Ministers blocking Rosebank oil field will help Putin's Russia, Tories warn - as Labour MP says Jackdaw approval a 'drop in the ocean' by comparison
Michael Marra has argued that the Shetland field would deliver economic and employment benefits, pressing the case with Andy Burnham and his ministers directly. Miatta Fahnbulleh has insisted 'only I can make that decision', not the Prime Minister or the Chancellor. She argues Rosebank differs from Jackdaw because most of its oil would be exported. Left-wing Labour MPs have written to her urging rejection.
Tory MP Douglas Lumsden says rejecting Rosebank would be 'cruel, unnecessary and uneconomic'.
Lumsden says the field could support 1,600 to 2,000 jobs at peak construction.
Shadow energy secretary Andrew Bowie warns that blocking Rosebank would help Putin's Russia.
