Ministers consider restricting smart glasses sales to 'certain users' as MPs warn men are 'monetising misogyny' by secretly filming women

Safeguarding minister Satvir Kaur told the Commons the government is examining restrictions on selling smart glasses to "certain users" and banning them from environments including healthcare and education. Both NHS England and the Department for Education are reviewing wearable technology in those sectors. Liberal Democrat MP Marie Goldman warned that creators are raking in "millions" of views by covertly filming women in public and facing no legal penalty.

Goldman told MPs current harassment law only triggers if the same woman is targeted repeatedly, meaning filming dozens of different women remains entirely legal.

Liberal Democrat MP Anna Sabine, who called the debate, said women are discovering after nights out that footage of themselves has gone viral without their knowledge.

Ministers are also considering 'appropriate next steps' over smart glasses being worn inside parliament itself.
