Mohamed Salah refused to tell police who was driving his Rolls-Royce when a speed camera caught it doing 36mph in a 30mph zone in Wilmslow, Cheshire, on 27 March. The 34-year-old did not respond to Cheshire Constabulary's notice of prosecution, did not enter a plea, and was convicted of failing to identify the driver at Warrington Combined Court. He was handed a six-month ban and ordered to pay £1,044. The offence occurred just two days before he announced his departure from Liverpool after nine years.
The hearing was held under the Single Justice Procedure, in which magistrates sit in private — a process regarded as controversial.
Salah, who scored 257 goals in 442 Liverpool appearances, has since transferred to Turkish side Trabzonspor, where he has scored seven goals in six league games.
It is not his first motoring offence: in 2022 he was fined £200 and received three penalty points after being caught doing 62mph in a 50mph zone in a Ferrari in Stockport.
