Morrisons posts its strongest quarterly sales growth in over a year as World Cup and sunshine lift shoppers through the doors

Morrisons chief executive Rami Baitiéh revealed like-for-like sales climbed 3.2 per cent in the 13 weeks to July 26, the supermarket's best quarterly performance since mid-2025. It extends Morrisons' run to 15 consecutive quarters of like-for-like growth, with Baitiéh crediting an 'unbeatable prices' pledge matching Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Sainsbury's and Tesco. Net borrowings are now nearly 50 per cent lower than in 2022, a critical measure for a business taken private in a heavily debt-financed buyout by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice in 2021.
Baitiéh called it 'clear evidence our strategy is delivering' after years of losing ground to German discounters.
Rival Asda recorded a NINTH consecutive quarterly sales drop last month, underscoring how differently the two private-equity-backed grocers are faring.
Morrisons has slipped to sixth place in market share after being overtaken by Lidl, a sign that its turnaround still has considerable distance to run.
