Andrea Skopova, 20, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court with Peter Horvath Jr, 19, his father Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and his mother Nina Horvathova, 37, all charged with the murder of a newborn on the day of her birth. Judge Jeremy Richardson KC remanded the four Slovakian nationals in custody and set a trial date of April 12 next year, with the proceedings expected to last up to seven weeks. A 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named, was also in court facing a charge of perverting the course of justice.
Baby Maria Skopova was discovered on August 30, swaddled in a towel and left inside a bag on a washing machine in an outbuilding in Wincobank, Sheffield.
All four adults face additional charges of causing or allowing a child's death and of perverting the course of justice, the latter relating to the alleged cleaning of the crime scene.
Large crowds gathered outside Sheffield Crown Court as the defendants — accompanied by seven security guards and three Slovak interpreters — heard the case put against them.
