Mother held without bail after five-year-old Fabiana suffered heart and brain injuries, DA reveals
Francis Cabello, 32, was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on second-degree murder charges after prosecutors revealed her daughter Fabiana had suffered damage to her heart, eyes, lungs and brain. Cabello called 911 on Wednesday evening and told the dispatcher 'I killed my daughter', directing officers upstairs where they found the child face down and bleeding. Given the severity of Fabiana's condition, police skipped an ambulance and transported her to Jamaica Hospital in a patrol car, but she was pronounced dead.
Prosecutors say Fabiana had been active around the house for hours before her mother confined her to a bedroom; the child did not emerge, but Cabello did — 45 minutes later — and placed the 911 call.
Assistant DA Lindsey Ruzza told the court Cabello had made multiple statements 'in reference to not only killing the child but wanting to have killed her child.'
Grandfather Franklin Cabello wept outside court, saying the family is 'mentally and physically destroyed' — but added: 'I forgive my daughter. She wasn't in her right mind.'
