Motorcyclist fleeing police on foot is killed on the M56 as another driver is held over his death
A second man, arrested at the scene, is suspected of causing death by careless driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and of driving without insurance. Greater Manchester Police had first noticed the motorcycle being ridden dangerously on the M60 near Stockport Pyramid at around 7.30pm on Saturday. After officers made 'tactical contact' with it at low speed near Manchester Airport, the rider fled on foot across the M56 near Wythenshawe.
The IOPC has ordered an independent investigation into the police contact before his death.
GMP has designated the matter a critical incident as the investigation continues.
Motorists were trapped inside the cordon for hours while the M56 remained closed overnight.
