Motorcyclist in his 60s dies after crash closes M27 eastbound between Whiteley and Portsmouth

A man in his 60s lost his life on the M27 shortly after 6:40am BST on Friday, when his white Triumph motorcycle was involved in a collision. The motorway is closed eastbound between junction 9 at Whiteley and junction 12 for Portsmouth, with the shutdown expected to continue into the afternoon. Hampshire police are appealing for witnesses and anyone whose dash cam may have captured footage to get in touch. Reports from drivers online indicated surface flooding on roads in the area earlier this morning.

Eight miles of the M27 are shut eastbound, with delays of up to 20 minutes building on approach.

Traffic is leaving the motorway at junction 9, with police directing drivers along the A27 towards Fareham and urging use of alternative routes.

National Highways confirmed that vehicles caught within the closure have now been freed.
