Motoring and cycling retailer Halfords sees like-for-like sales jump 7.1% after warm summer weather boosts bikes and camping

Investors took fright after Halfords cautioned that its investment plans would put pressure on second-half profits. The Redditch-based retailer operates 367 stores and 497 consumer garages. Cycling sales climbed 8.3% and motoring 7.3% in the six months to October 2. Bikes, camping equipment and air conditioning services all performed strongly during the unusually hot summer.
Halfords still expects an underlying pre-tax profit of £55 million to £65 million this year.
Chief executive Henry Birch said the firm enters the second half "with confidence".
The autocentres business also grew, with sales up 6.1% on last year.
