MPs will debate Britain rejoining the European Union in Westminster Hall on Monday after a petition calling for re-entry gathered close to 112,000 signatures. Labour MP Tony Vaughan, whose Folkestone & Hythe constituency voted Leave in 2016, will open the debate, with Europe Minister Hamish Falconer set to speak for Burnham's government in response. The debate comes in the wake of Burnham's conference speech, in which he left the door open to a second referendum, abandoning the government's earlier position that Britain would not seek to return. A new poll by European Movement UK found that close to three in four Labour voters favour a manifesto pledge to pursue EU membership.
A new 10-year roadmap backed by Lord Heseltine, Neil Kinnock and Sir Vince Cable proposes Britain back inside the EU by 2036.
Britons would now vote to rejoin by nearly two to one — 57 to 30 per cent — if another referendum were held, the poll found.
