MPs blast 'unambitious' NHS Mounjaro rollout that reaches just 6% of eligible patients, creating a 'two-tier system'

More than a million Britons are already paying privately for weight-loss injections, with some forking out more than £300 a month and falling into debt. The NHS intends to offer Mounjaro to only 220,000 people across three years, despite 2.8 million being eligible. Health committee chair Layla Moran said people with obesity are 'repeatedly failed'. MPs warn that desperate patients are turning to the black market.

Extending the jab to all 2.8 million eligible patients would cost the NHS £15.2 billion over five years.

Obesity costs the UK economy at least £74.3 billion a year, the report says.

France performs nearly ten times as many bariatric operations as Britain.
