Danielle Brown, 31, a barista from North Shields, lost her daughter Maisie at 29 weeks after the Royal Victoria Infirmary discharged her despite a consultant's advice that she should remain in hospital until birth. When she later called the maternity unit with severe stomach cramps, staff dismissed her, telling her it was probably a stomach bug. She waited 90 minutes on her return before scans confirmed Maisie had died.

Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has admitted a breach of duty, acknowledging Maisie would have survived had Brown not been wrongly sent home.

Brown and partner Anthony Miller, 34, had prepared a nursery and held a gender reveal party before the tragedy; she endured a 10-hour labour to deliver Maisie on February 17, 2023.

The trust has paid an undisclosed settlement to the family and apologised, but Brown said: 'Nobody explained what had happened to Maisie.'
