Murder investigation launched after body of woman in her 70s is found in Liverpool's Stanley Park

Merseyside Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman's body was discovered in Stanley Park, Liverpool, with officers fearing she may have been dead for several weeks. A member of the public alerted police at around 17:25 BST on Friday, prompting a cordon to be thrown around the park. CCTV and witness inquiries are under way as detectives work to establish her identity. A Home Office post-mortem examination is due to take place to determine the cause of death.

The victim is believed to be a woman in her 70s, and police say they are working to formally identify her.

A cordon remains in place around Stanley Park while CCTV footage is reviewed and witnesses are interviewed.

Officers fear the woman may have lain undiscovered in the park for several weeks before a member of the public raised the alarm.
