Murder probe launched after woman in her 70s is found dead in Liverpool's Stanley Park 'for weeks'

Merseyside Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman believed to be in her 70s was discovered dead in the walled garden of Stanley Park, Liverpool, on Friday evening. Post-mortem findings are being withheld for investigative reasons, and the woman remains unidentified. Initial inquiries suggest her body had gone unnoticed for several weeks before a member of the public came across it at around 5.25pm on August 28.

The victim, yet to be identified, is described as a white woman of around 5ft 2in with a slight frame and strawberry blonde hair.

She had on a 'distinctive cerise pink Nike T-shirt' at the time of discovery, and police are appealing to dog walkers who regularly visit the walled garden to get in touch.

Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson says officers have reviewed missing persons records across Merseyside and the surrounding region but have so far been unable to establish the woman's identity.
