A murder investigation has been launched in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, after a man was found dead inside a terraced house on Lisnahull Road and a young girl was discovered seriously injured beside him. PSNI detectives from the Major Investigation Team were called to the scene following a 999 call received shortly after 11am on Saturday. A male suspect, arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, is being held in police custody. The injured child was airlifted to Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
The house was sealed off by forensic officers in white suits as screams rang out from family members gathered nearby.
Deirdre Varsani, a Sinn Féin councillor, said police have upgraded the incident to a 'serious domestic incident', with shock 'reverberating' through the community.
The NIAS response included an air crew, three ground emergency crews, an advanced care paramedic and a Hazardous Area Response Team — reflecting the severity of the child's injuries.
