Myanmar's junta releases rare photos of Aung San Suu Kyi receiving gardening books and a sealed letter from King Charles
Aung San Suu Kyi's son claims the military-backed regime is trying to 'create an illusion of normality' with the pictures. Home ministry officials handed over the King's package in a 10-minute meeting in Naypyitaw, including a sealed diplomatic pouch. Critics called the images a stunt to end Myanmar's diplomatic isolation.
The books were 'The Land Gardeners: Soil to Table' and 'Soil: The World at Our Feet'.
Coup leader Min Aung Hlaing, accused of crimes against humanity, is courting the West.
No foreign leader or envoy has publicly met Suu Kyi, 81, since her 2021 arrest.
