Danish sculptor Jens Galschiøt has put an 8.5-foot gold-leaf statue of a naked Donald Trump on display inside the European Parliament building in Strasbourg. The artwork, titled 'The Orange Plague — King of Injustice', shows Trump sitting atop a smaller, clothed man while brandishing a golf club and a globe in one hand and scales of justice in the other. Galschiøt says Trump is 'destroying all the things I believe in' and called the piece a 'satirical outcry' against US climate and foreign policy. The statue is scheduled to remain on display until Thursday.
The plinth reads: 'I am sitting on the back of a man. He is sinking under my burden. I will do anything to help him. Except stepping down from his back.'
The exhibition was sponsored by a single Danish MEP, Per Clausen of the far-left Red-Green Alliance, which holds around six per cent of Parliament's seats — it was not a vote of the full Parliament.
More than a thousand miniature copies of the statue were handed out as protest tokens at the unveiling.
