Leeds doctors' neglect contributed to baby girl's meningitis death after they put her symptoms down to Covid, inquest jury finds

Five-month-old Esta High's parents defied medical advice to leave, as the baby's temperature climbed above 40C and she continued vomiting. Mother Lynsey Carr described staff as 'rude' and said the family were brushed aside even when Esta developed arm tremors and a rash. The jury at Wakefield Coroner's Court found that with timely treatment, Esta would probably have survived or lived longer.
Lawyers for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust admitted chances to give antibiotics were missed.
Ms Carr called Esta's time on the CAT unit '15 hours filled with missed opportunities'.
She believed staff cared more about isolating Esta for Covid than listening to her parents.
