Netanyahu orders 'very extensive' West Bank operation after two Israeli soldiers are killed, days before Israel's election

The gunmen were named as Mohammad Jaaba and Firas Jaaba, both 27 and from Hebron, and were shot dead after a gun battle at a checkpoint. Israeli troops believe the pair were heading for a bigger attack on Route 35 when they ran into the checkpoint. Two of the five Israelis, all in their 20s, are in critical condition. Israelis go to the polls on Tuesday.

Netanyahu warned Hamas: 'You have nowhere to hide.'

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich ordered the demolition of Palestinian buildings next to the attack site.

The gunfire lasted more than 20 minutes. A medic shouted on camera: 'We can't evacuate the wounded.'
