Neutron Tower fire victims are still living out of hotel rooms MORE THAN A WEEK after Poplar blaze killed one

From the Newshound archive · first published 21 September 2026.

Residents of Neutron Tower in Poplar, east London, have been told to expect at least eight more days in hotels after fire tore through the 17th and 18th floors on 12 September, killing one man and displacing more than 50 others. Katarzyna Krupecka, whose family is among those displaced, said the conditions were "not living" and that children's education was being disrupted. Building manager First Port has given no firm return date while safety assessments and repairs continue.

Resident Ayaz Rahman and his disabled wife Bushra Chowdhry have been moved between hotel rooms twice in a week, with no answers from First Port.

Displaced residents have no access to washing machines or cooking equipment and say they feel kept in the dark about safety concerns in the block.

A separate overnight blaze at Keel House in Weymouth spread from a top-floor flat to the roof on Sunday, leaving more residents without their homes.
