New Mexico's Republican candidate for governor rejects Trump's demand to rename the state 'New America'

Gregg Hull said the state's identity is 'never up for negotiation. EVER', standing by his view that 'New Mexico does not need a new name'. Fellow Republican Greg Cunningham, who is running for Congress, said the change was not 'legislatively possible'. President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that home values and incomes would rise. He also swiped at the state's 'Crooked Elections'.

Democratic Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham asked: 'This tired New America bit again?'

The name is written into the state Constitution, so Trump cannot change it himself.

Deb Haaland told Trump to focus on 'ending this war' instead of renaming the state.
