New York Governor Kathy Hochul appeared in the Netflix documentary 'Instadocs: Jane Doe v. Cornell' and declared the allegations "disgusting," drawing sharp criticism from legal experts who warn her comments could compromise the live investigation she herself commissioned. Criminal defence attorney Donna Rotunno said the cameo creates an "air of impropriety" that risks tainting the special prosecution Hochul signed into law last month.

None of the seven Chi Phi fraternity brothers named in Jane Doe's civil lawsuit have been criminally charged.

Hochul also announced New York State Police will now handle all sexual assault complaints at Cornell, bypassing campus police.

Jane Doe alleges she was drugged and gang-raped inside the Chi Phi fraternity house in October 2024, nearly two years before filing her civil suit.
