Newcastle beat big-spending Spurs 2-0 as Elanga and Wissa expose De Zerbi's attacking shortfall

Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scored second-half goals to give Newcastle a commanding 2-0 victory at Tottenham, inflicting a second straight Premier League defeat on a side that has spent £300million this summer. Sandro Tonali, who left Newcastle for Spurs in a £100million deal, switched off to gift Elanga the opener in the 62nd minute. The win gave Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle his first Premier League victory while Roberto De Zerbi tasted his first home defeat since arriving in March.

Spurs fielded five summer signings but failed to score, with Jamie Carragher predicting De Zerbi will seek attacking reinforcements before the September 1 deadline.

Savio, Spurs' £85million arrival from Manchester City, missed the game entirely with muscle fatigue just days after scoring on his debut against Charlton.

Maddison, Sarr, Simons, Odobert and Kulusevski are also sidelined, leaving Spurs' treatment room ominously full with a trip to Nottingham Forest next weekend.
