Newquay mayor defects from the Greens to Labour over 'Zionism is racism' motion as 18,000 members have quit since May

Drew Creek, the Mayor of Newquay and Green Party leader on Cornwall Council, defected to Labour on Thursday, saying leader Zack Polanski had "doubled down" on the motion rather than retreat. Creek accused Polanski's leadership of "driving division" and said Labour — under Andy Burnham's model of politics — was where he could better serve his community. The Equality and Human Rights Commission has been contacted by Jewish campaigners, and Labour chair Bridget Phillipson has warned local power-sharing deals will collapse unless the Greens reverse course.
Sheffield's Green–Labour power-sharing deal faces collapse next Wednesday as Labour council leader Fran Belbin relays "messages of fear and anger" from the Jewish community.
ITV's Anne Hegerty branded Green Party figures "a***holes" over the motion at a press event on Friday.
Senior party figures warn the Greens have been taken over by pro-Palestinian activists, with 18,000 members having left since May.
