Nick Knowles says 'there's no endless pot of money' at the BBC as DIY SOS is shelved after 26 years

The BBC has denied permanently axing DIY SOS but will rest it in 2027, citing its 'savings challenges'. A cheaper spin-off, DIY SOS Rebuilt My Life, will revisit past builds instead. Nick Knowles, 64, who has fronted the show since 1999, told fans on Instagram he is 'disappointed' not to be filming next year. He called the show 'an honour and a privilege'.

Producers South Shore will make the spin-off, which the BBC calls 'more cost-effective'.

Knowles said fans' weekend messages showed they share his 'deep love for this show'.

'It's the people who are the beating heart of SOS,' Knowles wrote.
