The 42-year-old, Nigeria's first case in the outbreak, left Abuja early on Monday, stable, conscious and able to communicate. Health minister Muhammad Ali Pate warned: 'This does not mean she is not still infectious.' Her husband has shown no symptoms, and Switzerland will now monitor him. Mohamed Janabi, the WHO's regional director for Africa, said Nigeria currently has no Ebola cases.

Uganda, declared Ebola-free in August, tightened its border controls on Sunday.

The first patients in both Nigeria and Kenya had passed through Uganda's Entebbe airport.

Since May, three other infected people have been evacuated to Germany and the Netherlands.
