Nigeria is tracing 44 contacts after confirming its first Ebola case in a woman who arrived from Uganda

The patient fell ill on 7 October and was taken to a private hospital in Abuja four days later, before Ebola was confirmed. Uganda says she merely passed through that country, identifying her as a Nigerian woman who had been on a business trip to eastern Congo. Health Minister Muhammad Pate said 'everything possible' was being done. Kenya has now confirmed nine cases.

The Bundibugyo strain has no approved vaccine and kills nearly half of those infected.

Congo's death toll has topped 4,600 since the outbreak began in May.

Africa CDC chief Dr Jean Kaseya warned: 'We are facing an extremely serious threat.'
