Frank Carr, who warned on Countryfile that there was "no real clarity on the future" for hill farmers, died on 25 September 2026, weeks after the appearance aired.

Frank Carr, a fourth-generation Yorkshire Dales farmer who appeared on BBC Countryfile in August, died on 25 September aged 35, just weeks after cautioning that there was "no real clarity on the future" for British hill farms. To secure the future of Lee Gate Farm in Malhamdale, North Yorkshire — a 2,000-acre family operation with a herd of 250 breeding cows and a flock of 1,300 breeding ewes — he had taken on roughly £1 million in debt. Tributes from across the farming community describe him as representing "the very best of the next generation." The cause of his death has not been made public.

Carr told Countryfile presenter Adam Henson that farming was "very challenging mentally" alongside its rewards.

Farmers Guardian editor Katie Jones said his loss "at just 35 is immeasurably" felt across British agriculture.

A fourth-generation farmer, Carr had once vowed never to farm before family circumstances changed his mind.
