Nobel winner María Corina Machado returns to Venezuela after nearly a year in exile to challenge the Trump-backed regime
María Corina Machado, who posted "I am here. With you," on X as her party shared photos of her in a church in Lara State, returning to Venezuela after months in exile to demand new elections.
Machado had been turned back seven times in recent months before reportedly flying privately from Panama to Colombia and crossing overland. 'I'm here. With you all,' she posted, then appeared at a church in Lara state. President Donald Trump said he knew nothing of it and signalled continued backing for interim president Delcy Rodríguez. He also claimed the US has 'total control of Venezuela'.
Trump: 'She gave me her Nobel Prize, so how can I say anything else?'
Ally Edmundo González hailed her return and vowed to join her soon.
Machado wants elections by next July, but Trump has said it is too soon.
