Colin Sutton, Norfolk's Reform UK police and crime commissioner, has abandoned plans to tour the UK in a 127-date live true crime theatre show, admitting the scale of the venture was "ridiculous" and that residents' anger made him reconsider. He confirmed the cancellation at a North Norfolk District Council scrutiny committee meeting on Wednesday. Labour MP Ben Goldsborough had warned that "you can't police a county from the back of a tour bus."
Sutton had defended the tour just last week, asking: 'Am I not entitled to spend my spare time as I wish?'
The high-profile ex-detective led the investigation that caught Levi Bellfield, murderer of Milly Dowler, and won the PCC election just two months ago.
Conservative Matthew Taylor called it "a sorry saga" that left many Norfolk residents "deeply disappointed by this episode."
