North Korea's Kim Jong Un returns from his first China trip in a year praising Xi Jinping and 'invincible' ties

Kim Jong Un crossed into the Chinese border city of Dandong on Saturday over the new 3km New Yalu River Bridge. China finished building the bridge 12 years ago, but it only opened in mid-October after delays on the North Korean side. Kim laid a wreath at a Korean War memorial with senior Communist Party official Wang Huning, who passed on Xi's greetings. The two men also toured a car factory before Kim was waved home over the bridge.

Kim pledged 'generational gratitude' to the Chinese who 'helped our revolution with blood'.

The trip was timed ahead of the anniversary of China's first major Korean War victory.

North Korea opened its first road bridge to Russia only weeks earlier, in September.
