North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reportedly crosses into China over a newly opened bridge in his first visit for a year

Kim Jong Un arrived in the border city of Dandong via the New Yalu River Bridge, which opened earlier this month after more than a decade of delay. North Korean and Chinese state media have stayed silent. The visit follows years in which Kim prioritised Russia.

Kim has sent thousands of troops and conventional weapons to back Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine.

Chinese President Xi Jinping travelled to Pyongyang in June for talks with Kim.
