Norwegian foreign minister Espen Barth Eide told broadcaster NRK that Donald Trump 'knows very well that the Nobel Committee is independent'. The committee confirmed it is 'entirely independent of the Norwegian government'. At a Port Huron, Michigan rally, Trump said Danes and Swedes were welcome but Norwegians were not. The 2026 prize went to former UN human rights chief Navi Pillay.
Trump told the crowd: 'Frankly, Norway sucks. I don't want anything to do with Norway.'
He called Pillay 'a woman nobody ever heard of' and asked: 'Do they do two of them?'
Pillay earlier joked she might share the prize with Trump.
