Norwegian foreign minister Espen Barth Eide said on Monday that President Donald Trump 'knows very well that the Nobel Committee is independent'. Trump told a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, that 'Norway sucks' and he does not want 'anybody from Norway'. He said he would take migrants from Denmark and Sweden instead. There is no sign of any new official US policy on Norwegians.
The 2026 prize went to Navi Pillay, who previously served as UN human rights chief.
Trump called Pillay 'a woman that nobody ever heard of' and asked: 'Do they do two of them?'
Pillay earlier joked she 'may share this prize with Trump'.
