'Not bragging, I settled eight wars': Trump makes last-minute Nobel Peace Prize pitch ahead of Friday's announcement

President Donald Trump has publicly campaigned for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, telling White House reporters he has done "stuff that nobody else has ever done" and that withholding the prize from him would be a "great discredit" to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which announces its decision on Friday. Trump took credit for settling eight wars and preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, while conceding the committee has "a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me."
Trump also took a swipe at Barack Obama, saying he himself "still doesn't know" why he won the 2009 prize.
Several countries Trump claims to have helped reconcile — among them India and Pakistan — have rejected his version of events, and fighting has resumed in some of the regions he cited.
Maria Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader, presented Trump with her own 2025 Nobel medal in January, though the committee promptly ruled that the award could not be transferred.
