Nottingham hospital bosses urge the public to stay away after a critical incident is declared amid record A&E demand

More than 100 patients were left waiting to be seen at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital. The trust has logged record A&E attendances three times in a fortnight, and September visits were up 2,000 on last year. Over 200 patients fit to go home are still stuck in beds, filling nearly eight wards. Staff are working under 'extreme pressure'.
The trust admitted patients face 'unacceptable and lengthy waits on corridors'.
Staff are being diverted to a surge of cardiology patients needing prolonged intensive care.
Chief nurse Tracy Pilcher said the trust was 'very sorry' for corridor care.
