Nottingham hospitals declare a critical incident as 100 patients wait in A&E and corridor care is branded 'unacceptable'

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has recorded three of its all-time highest A&E attendance figures within a single fortnight. In September, A&E visits ran 2,000 ahead of the equivalent month in 2025. At the Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital, upwards of 200 clinically ready-to-discharge patients continue to occupy beds — filling the equivalent of almost eight wards. The trust has warned that the backlog 'increases the risk of harm'.
Chief nurse Tracy Pilcher said the record came 'not just once, but three times in two weeks.'
An influx of cardiology patients requiring extended intensive care has put pressure on resources across other departments.
Families are being asked to come and collect relatives who have been cleared to leave hospital.
