Nottingham hospitals declare a critical incident with 100 waiting in A&E while 200 fit patients are STUCK in beds

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital, has logged three record A&E attendances in just a fortnight. September brought 2,000 more emergency visits than the same month in 2025. The trust admits patients face 'unacceptable and lengthy waits on corridors'. It warns the backlog 'increases the risk of harm'.

Medically fit patients stuck on wards fill the equivalent of nearly eight wards.

A surge in long-stay cardiology cases has drained staff from other patients.

Chief nurse Tracy Pilcher apologised for corridor care and begged families to collect relatives.
